About the artist
François Morellet was a French painter, sculptor and light artist whose works prefigured minimal and conceptual art. His work is characterized by abstraction and simple geometric forms: lines, squares and triangles coming together in two-dimensional works. Later in his career, Morellet started to work with various materials in order to investigate the use of exhibition space. According to him, a work of art referred only to itself. Born in 1926, France, Morellet lived and worked there until his death in 2016.
