Gallery Baronian is delighted to host Uncontrolled Bodies, Toufan Hosseiny’s (b. 1988) first project at the gallery, and her second solo show in Belgium. The exhibition features her Cloud series, a new direction in the artist’s œuvre that investigates the disconnect between each other and ourselves, as well as the potentialities of realignment through poetic catharsis.
A (sub)liminal white space, a cocoon of serenity amidst the urban jungle sets the stage for Hosseiny’s Clouds. Her subtle plays on materiality through complex textile work forms the canvas on which her poetic metaphors can come to life. Clouds carry within them a dichotomy. They are both the representation and the attempt to resolve this modern disconnect. Hosseiny’s works are born from her meditative practices, which, while very personal, are inherently universal in the desire to bring us closer to ourselves. The result are textile poems, odes to a more grounded existence. They inspire a lighter approach to life, we are reminded to let thoughts pass us by, Clouds inspire us to let go. – Text by Tomas Borchert

Uncontrolled Bodies
A cloud passes by
Taking away part of us
We see ourselves
Floating in the sky
Surrounded by realities
Each redefining who we think we are
